The Fort Aguada is one of the largest and impressive forts preserved as one of the best known landmarks in Goan history. Its prominence has grown from the fact that its headland on which it is built offers a wonderful site for military architects due to its shielding of the vital sea access from the heart of the Portuguese territory thereby making it an ideal site for seaward as well as landward defense.

The post has steep sides along the ocean and a channel as an afterthought confronting the area. Various guns arranged its bulwark at one time. The fortification is twofold walled and has a two entryways at its gatehouse to go about as a safeguard in the event that aggressors succeeded in breaking the external divider.
The primary goal of building the fortification was to watch Goa against the Dutch and the Marathas. The fortification served as a kind of perspective point for vessels originating from Europe. Fortress Aguada was the most prized and essential fortification to the Portuguese. Aguada fortification is housed by a 4 story Portuguese beacon, raised in 1864, which is the most established of its kind in Asia. This beacon is no more being used, having been supplanted by another one developed as of late. The light from this beacon can be seen even in far away places like Mapusa and Aldona during the evening. A tremendous tank with underground loads is situated at the focal point of the fortress. A little entryway prompts the chambers and tanks underneath. This bit of the fortress has been secured with solid chunks and is not open to people in general.
